A sweet fragrance is carried upon light streams of the crisp early morning atmosphere. Across the way, steam billows from beneath the alleyway, blowing careless pieces of paper around in a futile dance with gravity. The unmistakable rapid clip-clop of high heels against the sidewalk radiate out from the glass storefronts. All while the sun’s gentle rays pierce the maze of buildings casting the skyline’s stretched shadow along the ground in these precious Paris Moments in Time.
The street lamps fade out one by one and stand silently at guard until called upon once more at dusk, to illuminate the bustling nightlife. The ground rumbles underfoot as the first full metro speeds its cargo off to the many destinations of the day. Good Morning Paris, it’s a pleasure to meet you!
take a seat
One could get lost in the café’s glass front reflections, where the world just over your shoulder runs in reverse and stretches off into infinity. The expressions worn on the faces that pass by can tell their life story if you study them carefully enough. Most will be faceless ghosts that float through our mind in fragments until we relive these moments in time again.
Coffee has a different connotation when sipped leisurely, watching the city remould itself from the night before. Apartment lights flicker on and off as their residence slowly spill out onto the streets to begin their journey. Watching them walk by, struggling with their umbrellas against the chilly wind, desperately trying to keep dry makes me smile slightly. Realizing they are just like the raindrops in a way. They know where their final destination is, but the obstacles they face getting there are still undetermined until they collide.
enjoy the moments in time
Having been a victim of the hustle and bustle of city life, always on the go hurrying to the next thing, it sinks in just how foolish it all is as we sit tucked warmly within the shadow of Notre-Dame watching it happen before us. We tend to pass everything and everyone in a state of tunnel vision. Taking the time now, sipping a café au lait and nibbling on a freshly baked croissant, I become more aware of the history, architecture, beauty of Paris, and the simplicity of a raindrop rolling down the surface of a windscreen in slow, deliberate chaos.
Possessing quite a fondness for the city now, I’m glad to have been here. Sitting outside its abundance of cafés, wandering through many of its colourful streets, strolling through numerous spectacular parks and gardens, gazing in awe at the countless monuments, statues and fountains. The quaint bridges filled with locks of love. Watching in envy the artists with their easels sketching and painting the skylines. Barges are meandering silently along the River Seine leaving a wake in their midst which the swans take in their stride.
the sights
There are so many beautiful moments to take in and historical places to visit in Paris. The Catacombs, La Conciergerie and the majestic Palace of Versailles. Museums such as the Louvre and Musee d’Orsay, which hold priceless masterpieces. Passageways and streets like Rue Crémieux and Rue Cler – the most famous market street in Paris, where time seems to have stood still. Then,
One thing that I’m taking away is that no matter where we reside or visit, we should slow down and take time to live in these moments in time. Watch the leaves fall, fluttering aimlessly on the breeze. Smile at someone whos worn expression tells you they could benefit significantly from that small gesture. Think and get lost in the fact that in the glass reflections, you’re looking left instead of right. Try it! I know I won’t let Paris pass me by!
Paris. The City of Love, the City of Romance, the City of Lights. Whatever the weather or the time of year, Paris is magical. Paris – Moments in Time.
